Question CARE GIVERS NW Referral Service Independent
Caregiver
Are my caregivers supervised? YES

CARE GIVERS NW performs client surveys, in-home service evaluations and maintains continual communication with you and your family members to ascertain the quality of service you're receiving.

Zero Risk
PERHAPS

Referral Agencies do not employ the caregivers they refer to you. They have no responsibility to check on their quality of service and no authority to correct inadequacies in the quality of service you're receiving.

Substantial Risk
DOUBTFUL

Independent Caregivers generally work alone and are accountable only to themselves. An Independent Caregiver is exclusively your employee and it is your responsibility to supervise them, enforce punctuality and dependability as well as to correct any service inadequacies.

Extreme Risk
Who is responsible for witholding taxes and reporting wages and taxes to the appropriate agencies? WE ARE

Your caregiver is an employee of
CARE GIVERS NW.
We are responsible for
all the tasks required for withholding taxes and reporting wages and withheld taxes to the appropriate agencies.

Zero Risk
UNKNOWN

Referral Agencies do not actually employ the caregivers they refer to you. Ask the referral agency who is responsible for withholding taxes and reporting wages of the caregivers referred to you.

Substantial Risk
YOU ARE

When you hire an independent caregiver,
you are their employer
and, according to the
IRS tax regulations
, they
are classified as your "Household Employee". It is your responsibility to withhold state, Federal and FICA deductions from their wages and on a quarterly basis file the appropriate forms with payments to the applicable tax authorities. You are also responsible for issuing an annual W-2 from to your caregiver.

Extreme Risk
May I change my schedule or level of service with you? YES

CARE GIVERS NW is a professional care giving agency capable of adjusting to any schedule changes or service alterations you require. Although we generally require a day's notice to implement changes, in emergency situations we can react within an hour or so of notification.

Zero Risk
PERHAPS

Referral Agencies have no control over the policies or flexibility of any caregivers they may refer to you. It would be wise to ask them about change-of-schedule policies and service revision abilities of the caregiver they try to send to you.

Substantial Risk
NOT LIKELY

An Independent Caregiver often works alone. Their available hours are limited and their skill sets are fixed. If you need a schedule change, additional coverage or a change in service, they may have a difficult time adjusting their schedule to meet your needs. If the different services you may suddenly require are not within their capabilities, they have no one else to provide differentiated care to you.
